The 1960's and the ‘70's were the golden era of Sri Lankan music, cinema, drama and modern literature. Many creative geniuses in their respective fields gifted us with some of the greatest creations that would occupy our pleasant memories forever.

Songs created during that era still resonate in the minds of millions. True to the word, they were indeed masterpieces from the lyrics, to the music, to the vocals. The Sinhala movies of that era will keep us glued to the screen, no matter how many times we have seen them before.

Mr. Chitrananda Abeysekera is one of the geniuses of that time; one who excelled in so many different fields. You may be humming a song blessed with his soothing lyrics at this very moment. Do you remember "Kothanaka Hitiyath Oba Melowe” sung by H. R. Jothipala, “Lassana Rattharan Babo” sung by Rukmani Devi, “Nivi Nivi Dilise Tharuwe” sung by Latha Walpola, “Aakase Aavase Soorya Negi” sung by Dharmadasa & Latha Walpola, "Jaya Siri Maa Bodee” sung by Dayarathna Ranatunga or "Oba Dan Keewath Kandulu Salaa” by Milton Mallawarachchi? All of them and many more that you would cherish are the products of Chitrananda Abeysekera's genius mind.

The name Chitrananda Abeysekera always rhymes with Poetry, Songs and Broadcasting. This is just a humble effort to portray his life, creations and achievements of “Chitra” for the future generation.
